Think of the "Depth" control as a knob that lets you change the depth of the canyon you are playing guitar in. The "Length" control adjusts the tails/decay time of the overall reverb. At low "Length" settings you feel like you're in a bathroom, at full tilt you feel like you're in a space cave that transcends human perception.

Shift Knob & Footswitch
The "Shift" knob is possibly the most useful of them all as it basically allows two settings on the fly. The concept is simple; a single pedal that offers up an echo/slap delay and a boost that can be used as an always-on enhancer or as an overdrive for small wattage amplifiers. Josh designed the circuit in late 2016 and here we are, a small footprint, easy to use boost/echo 2-in-1 that fits into any style players rig with ease. Let's look at the controls.

The right side of the pedal is the boost side. This boost is a discreet amplifier based circuit with tons of power and character. Simply set it low at unity gain for an always-on enhancer that fattens up and clarifies your tone, or turn more clockwise to push your tube amplifier into sweet natural overdrive. The left side of the pedal is the echo/slap delay circuit. This circuit is designed to emulate a hybrid of tape echo and analog BBD delay, and cover the tonal grounds between both. The controls are simple and it sounds good in every setting. The “Slap” knob is the amount of delay time. As you turn the knob up, you will get longer delay times. Keep in mind, this pedal is designed for shorter vintage slap-back delay times. The “Mix” knob is the effect level. Full counter clockwise is all dry and full clockwise is full wet/effect. The “Repeat” knob controls how many echoes or repeats you get. Players ranging from The Edge, Trey Anastasio, Buddy Guy, Kirk Hammett, John Mayer, SRV, Carlos Santana and thousands more from every possible genre have utilized and depended on this classic iconic green box. If a single effect pedal was chosen to board a Voyager 3 mission and be solely responsible for showing the universe the sound of overdrive, it would undoubtedly be Tube Screamer. It is probably the most produced and sold pedal in the history of guitar pedals! The Bonsai is the JHS tribute to one of the greatest pedals ever created.

Following in the steps of the JHS Muffuletta (released 2015), the Bonsai utilizes a simple rotary knob to switch through nine classic, vintage, rare, or hard to find variations of the Screamer. Creating the Bonsai became an archeological dig of sorts that sent JHS deep into the history of this circuit by examining dozens of versions, variations and replications. At the end of it all, Josh chose nine of his personal and favorite units and we painstakingly replicated every nuance and aspect of each pedal. One of the most challenging parts of this project was accounting for component drift as many of these pedals were decades old and the internal components had strayed from their original values. Each pedal was individually replicated using our Audio Precision analyzer and various other methods that allowed us to perfectly replicate every aspect of the sound and feel of the unit. By 1979 Scott had perfected the circuit in his RAT-infested basement workshop, and the rest is history.

The PackRat is the ultimate tribute to the 40+ years of rodent evolution and its impact on the guitar’s sound. The JHS Bender is our attempt to recreate the most prized Tonebender* in my collection: my 1973 MK3 Silver/Orange “Onomatopoeia” version. This version has three very special germanium transistors, tons of mojo, and fifty plus years of experience, but it is finicky and it doesn’t always do what you want it to do. I had to ask: could we replicate this pedal sonically? Could we capture what it's all about, but in a way that is more consistent, dependable, and easy to manufacture? Yes. The end result is a pedal that gives you the touch, feel, and response of the vintage germanium fuzz but with accuracy and consistency of carefully chosen modern silicon transistors. The controls are Volume, Tone, and Attack. Volume sets the overall output level of the effect; turn it up and things get louder. Tone lets you sweep between bright and dark tones so that the Bender works well with a range of different amplifiers and guitars. Attack is the distortion control, the more you turn it clockwise, the more fuzz you create. On the side you will see a “Mode” button that lets you access a never-before-heard “JHS Mode”. Push that button for more gain and a mid frequency boost to send your leads soaring through the mix. With higher Attack settings in this mode, you will feel the fuzz slightly gate depending on your picking dynamics. If you want a fuzz that can go from middle of the road crunch distortion to full out aggression, the Bender is for you. The JHS Pedals 3 Series will inspire your playing and help you explore new sounds at a totally approachable price point.

Tape delay was invented in the late 40s when Les Paul strung two Ampex Model 200A reel-to-reel tape recorders together. A little later, in 1953, Ray Butts invented the Echosonic, the first actual tape delay unit. This would be followed up by the Echoplex EP-1 in 1961 from Mike Battle and the Space Echo from Roland in 1974. The JHS Pedals 3 Series Tape Delay is a simplified and faithful throwback to these classic units. The Mix control lets you control how much clean signal is blended in with the wet (delayed) signal (on the original unit, this was called Echo Volume). Tape Speed acts as a simulation of the RE-201’s tape motor speeding up and slowing down and determines how short or long the delay effect is. The Repeats control goes from a single repeat to many, reminiscent of a sound being written onto the tape loop with loss of fidelity each time. Finally, when the Flutter toggle is turned on (up position), it replicates the wear & tear to the mechanical parts of a tape machine that happens over time. This causes mild modulation, warble, and flutter sounds in the echo path of the delay that so many players desire.

The 424 Gain Stage gives all the elastic, lo-fi tone inspired by a guitar being plugged straight into a vintage 424 multi-track recorder. With the 424 Gain Stage pedal, you can easily integrate the rubbery clean tones, high head room, and smashed out fuzz that’s being repopularized by today’s emerging guitarists.

Multi-track recorders were made famous in the ‘80s and ‘90s, and gave musicians and songwriters the ability to bring our songs to life from the comfort of our cluttered bedrooms. The Crush knob controls bit depth, moving from full 24-bit resolution counterclockwise down to 1-bit clockwise,from unprocessed through grainy and textured, into square-wave aggression and gated digital distortion. The Sample Rate knob works counterclockwise from a clean 32.768 kHz down to 2.5 Hz, introducing aliasing and artifacts that range from subtle harmonic shifts to metallic, ring-mod-like chaos and full digital collapse. The Filter knob shapes both, fully clockwise is unfiltered. Turn counterclockwise to sweep the corner frequency and increase the filtering. The Type toggle selects the filter character: down is a second-order low-pass with no resonant peak, inspired by vintage synthesizers like Oberheim, full-bodied and well-suited to bass guitar. Toggle up is a high-pass and low-pass swept in succession, focusing a band of strong mid-range frequencies that evokes the small speaker sound of a handheld game console. Under the hood, this pedal applies a zero-hole filter,a theoretical signal processing concept that had never found a practical application until it became part of this circuit.

The 3 Series Glitch Delay is a delay pedal built around one singular obsession: time-based glitching. Inspired by the legendary Line 6 DL-4 and the ambient, smearing delay work of Bill Frisell, this pedal locks your core delay time in place while a randomized glitch event alters the playback speed in real time. This bends, drags, and warps repeats inside the delay circuit’s feedback loop. The result is a living, breathing delay that moves with you without losing your tempo. With Glitch fully counterclockwise it's a warm, musical delay pedal. No glitch, just classic delay tones that will fit any rig. Turn it clockwise and glitch probability increases up to 50% (when the knob is full clockwise), with the LED flashing in sync with each event. The Time control spans 20ms to 980ms, from tight slapback to long ambient pads. The Repeats control adds beautiful modulation as it climbs, and an internal limiter allows endless, never-runaway feedback. New notes stack on top of older, slowly dissolving repeats. The Mix toggle sets delay level at either a subtle 35% or a more present 80%. This is an easy to use pedal where no setting sounds bad.

The 3 Series Ring Modulator covers it all, from subtle, invisible modulation to full metallic chaos, with two distinct modes. The Blend knob mixes the ring modulation against your dry signal. The Frequency knob controls the speed of the ring modulator's oscillator, moving from slow, pulsing movement at lower settings to bell-like, metallic tones at higher ones. The Mode toggle selects between two algorithms. Down is Earworm mode, inspired by the now discontinued Way Huge Ringworm. The Tweak knob introduces an auxiliary LFO that adds wobble and movement to the modulation, turning a fixed ring mod into something alive and animated. Up is Green Lantern mode, inspired by the Green Ringer circuit, a wave rectifier that produces a natural-sounding octave effect alongside the ring modulation. In this mode, Tweak blends the octave effect from off to 100%. Used subtly under a solo, it adds a barely-there harmonic presence. Pushed hard with gain in front of it, it becomes something considerably wilder. Ring modulation has been around since the 1970s, and this pedal is our take on giving you everything the effect has to offer in one of the simplest possible packages.

The aptly named Fumble is JHS taking a mistake and turning into a small platform boutique Dumble style boost at a not-boutique price point. In 2025 JHS Released their second solderless pedal kit with two different Dumble Circuits. One problem. The wrong circuit was included. JHS owned up and fixed the mistake for the V2 NOTADUMBLE offering, but the Fumble circuit had made it out into the wild. JHS saw the opportunity for a new boost offering, and poking fun at themselves decided the self deprecating "Fumble" should, this time intentionally, see the light of day.

This simple boost is a clone of a clone of a clone. Originally this circuit was a recreation of a John Mayer owned Dumble BBC-1. However, after doing some digging it was found that the BBC-1 isn't really a Dumble circuit at all. It's a JFET preamp lifted almost part for part from a Barcus Berry acoustic preamp made in the 1970s — the kind of small utility box that bridged piezo pickups into electric guitar amps in an era when nobody had a modern acoustic preamp. This means that some of the most coveted Dumble amps are recreations of old JFET preamps, John's BBC-1 is a recreation of that, and the Fumble is a recreation of that. Wild.

With all that in mind, the Fumble is the perfect stackable boost with true bypass switching, offering that coveted Dumble sound. Your output knob simply acts as a master volume. Your input knob however, attenuates bass and input gain at the front of the circuit simultaneously. Fully right has no cut — consider it a bypass of the control. As you turn the knob to the left, bass and gain are gradually attenuated. Roll it down for a thinner, tighter response. Roll it up for a fuller, louder one.

This versatile pedal can be used in many ways including as a buffered clean boost, to slam in front of your overdrive of choice, in front of an overdriven amp, or as a solo boost at the end of your chain. This might just be the best mistake JHS ever made.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0494/8113/files/JHS-Pedals-Fumble-Front_1100x_4a457885-053f-4f14-a1e0-a6d71f0a358b.webp?v=1780500502
